2013 Infiniti EV
The Infiniti Essence Concept |
| The excitement is growing about the Infiniti EV – a dedicated pure electric vehicle that Infiniti will introduce to various global markets in 2013, including the United States. Details on this purpose-built premium EV are largely confined to a semi-revealing sketch and the fact that it will be a "stylish, high performance luxury vehicle with zero emissions technology" that will fully embody the brand's "Inspired Performance" philosophy. The sketch shows a more cab-forward design than current Infiniti models, likely due to the lesser need for space under the hood. Departing from Infiniti's design language, the hood comes up higher than the fenders and a substantial contour line stretches down the sides. The vehicle will be based on a bespoke derivative of the Nissan LEAF platform, although it will share no sheet metal or interior bits with its Nissan cousin. Whereas the Leaf comes only as a five-door hatch, it appears as though the Infiniti version will arrive as a sleek four-door. The Infiniti EV will offer seating for five. According to Infiniti Vice President Ben Poore, "This future EV will play a major part of Infiniti's 'eco performance' strategy that will see a greater focus on hybrid and EV technology. We are committed to applying the world's best technologies to reduce emissions without sacrificing driving excitement or engagement – a pledge that will become more evident soon with the upcoming introduction of our new Infiniti M Hybrid.” No word on when we might see Infiniti’s first attempt at an electric vehicle, but keep an eye out for a concept vehicle at an upcoming auto show. |
